Lychee was shown to have an “inhibitory effect on cancer cell growth.” Specifically, it inhibited tumor growth, stopped cancer cells from spreading, and spurred the self-destruction of cancer cells (a process called apoptosis).

Research has shown that lychee contains at least six individual phenolic compounds: gallic acid, chlorogenic acid, catechin, caffeic acid, epicatechin, and rutin. Although quite rare, eating lychee has been linked to allergic reactions, so go slow if you're new to the fruit or have allergies to latex, birch, sunflower seeds and other plants from the same family, and mugwort.
